According to a survey of over 2,000 adults conducted by IronmongeryDirect, those working in the agriculture sector, including farm managers, technicians, mechanics and administrators are among the healthiest workers in the UK.
The average agricultural worker is active for four and a half hours per day, with many in the industry being physically active for more than twice this length of time. In fact, in terms of physical exertion, agricultural workers follow just two other industries: health & fitness and the trades. The nature and location of most agricultural jobs offers easy access to fresh air and large open spaces too.
Unsurprisingly, those working in offices were the unhealthiest workforce. Many in the professional services sector failed to be active for even one hour per day and burned less than 300 calories through work related activity.
Additionally, since agriculture workers are typically not office-bound, they were found to be less likely to succumb to sugary treats than those in other industries. Only 23% admitted to enjoying a daily treat such as sweets or biscuits.
